Vornado builds its humidifiers around the same vortex air-circulation principle as its fans, which means the EV100 moves considerably more air across its wick than a conventional tabletop unit of the same tank size. Higher air velocity across a saturated medium increases the evaporation rate, which is the point — but it also accelerates everything that shortens wick life.
More water evaporated per hour means more dissolved mineral deposited per hour in the same capillary structure. Two identical wicks, one in a vortex unit and one in a low-airflow unit, fed from the same tap, will not reach end of life at the same time. The vortex unit's wick scales faster in direct proportion to how much better it works.
What this means for replacement scheduling
Manufacturer intervals are generally quoted for average conditions. For a high-circulation unit running continuously in a hard-water region, treat the published interval as an upper bound rather than a target. The variables that move it are set out in humidifier filter lifespan.
